Phoenix

Phoenix on display
Phoenix (self-portrait, 2012) is currently Jeanique's only physical work on display, offering a unique opportunity to see her work up close. The 46 x 70 cm limited 1 of 5 high-gloss sublimation-coated aluminum artwork is currently for sale at Galerie De Vloeiende Beweging in Bergen, North Holland.
Phoenix symbolizes both death and rebirth — the act of falling apart and finding the courage to rise again. It is a visual testament to resilience: emerging from the ashes with renewed strength, beauty, and bravery.
Between 2008 and 2012, Jeanique de Jager-Kats created hundreds of self-portraits during periods of deep depression and anxiety. Through her lens, she sought to translate the inexpressible — using photography as a form of self-therapy and survival.
From 2008 to 2009, she took one self-portrait every day, sharing them online with the world. Her project 365 attracted thousands of daily visitors and drew international attention. Her work was featured in newspapers such as de Volkskrant and NRC Next, as well as magazines like Viva, Marie Claire, and Focus Magazine. She was also invited to speak on several radio shows, earning recognition for her openness about mental health.
